Kick 'n' Rush
Comedy Skiffle Band Kick 'n' Rush formed in 1980, but the
origins of the band began to take shape much earlier under the name of
'Maun Valley Ramblers' during the 60's, followed by 'The Shambles' in
the 70's. Their music consists of Skiffle, Comedy, Folk and Rock 'n'
Roll, with their influences stretching from Lonnie Donnegan and Woody
Guthrie, through to the Beatles.
What is Skiffle? Skiffle was developed in the mid 1950's and
is a blend of folk songs with an up tempo Jazz and Rock rythm. The
music is happy and spontaneous and best of all, it can be played on
improvised instruments such as the wash board and tea chest bass (as
used by Kick 'n' Rush). This gave the working class a chance to start
their own bands and indeed, Skiffle groups were formed in every town
and village across Britain. At the height of the craze there where
probably more people playing Skiffle music than listening to it!
Today, refusing to accept new musical technology, Kick 'n'
Rush are still performing the greats in their own unique style, some 50
years after Skiffle's hey day.
